Let's Start Off on the Right Foot

Happy New Year!

Whether you believe in New Year’s resolutions or not, I believe we can all agree that goal setting and goal achieving are good feelings. Setting your sight on something, and working hard to achieve it can be extremely rewarding, and makes life worthwhile.

My experience in psychology and neuroscience research also makes me confident in the whole notion of new year’s visions. I personally prefer saying visions because it feels less heavy than a resolution. By definition, resolutions are “a firm decision to do or not to do something.” On the other hand, visions are"the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom.”

Visions support the belief that we look for progress and not perfection. For example, one of my goals is to focus more on my abs in the gym. A byproduct of this might be losing weight. However, on my list I will put focus more on ab exercises and not “gain a 6 pack, lost 30 pounds etc”.

It takes roughly 21-31 days to form a new habit. 21-31 days of consistency, reflection, and intent. So what HABIT are you determined to see happen in your life? With the right plan and 21-31 days, it can come to pass.

As a student, I know how costly it can be to pursue these changes. Below are three free and student/ working professional friendly templates to get you started.

Dream Big.
